In Consequence of the report of the committee, The Most Noble, Richard Wellesley, The Governor General in council, is pleased to confer the following prizes on the undermentioned gentlemen, as public marks of distinction for the progress which they have respectively made in the Hindoostanee and Persian languages: HINDOOSTANEE LANGUAGE. FIRST CLASS. Edward Scott Waring, Esq.--the first prize-a Gold Medal, and the sum of 1600 Sicca Rupees. Charles Lloyd, Esq.--the second prize-a Gold Medal, and the sum of 1500 Sicca Rupees. A third Medal, and the sum of 1390 Sicca Rupees, adjudged to Lewis Mackenzie, Esq. deceased since the date of the Report. SECOND CLASS. William Henry Trant, Esq.-the first prize-a Gold Medal, and the sum of 1400 Sicca Rupees. Thomas Fortescue, Esq.--the second prize-the sum of 1200 Sicca Rupees. Gordon Forbes, Esq.--the third prize--the sum of 1000 Sicca Rupees. THIRD CLASS. John Monckton, Esq.- the first prize the sum of 1100 Sicca Rupees. William Dorin, William Wilberforce Bird, and Henry Newnham, occasioned the deficiency in the usual number of Exercises on this day, Students now leaving College, on whom the Honorable the Visitor was pleased to confer a Degree of Honor on this occasion, were Hugh George Christian William Dorin, Walter Ewer, Henry Newnham, and Edward Parry. Of these gentlemen, Mr. Christian has merited the peculiar distinction of a Degree of Honor in three Languages. Students who have directed their attention to the acquisition of that useful Language, in which Mr. Hugh George Christian, Mr. Henry Newnham, and Mr. Edward Parry, have obtained Degrees of Honor. The Students who have been distinguished by their proficiency in this branch of important knowledge, are Mr. William Wilberforce Bird; Mr. Walter Ewer, and Mr. Henry Newnham. The design and execution of the work are equally creditable to the zeal, industry, and ability of its distinguished Author, Mr. John Herbert Harington, the Second Judge of the Court of Sudr Deewanee and Nizamut Udaluts, and Professor of the Laws and Regulations of the British Government in India.
