And looking for names a real treat;
But Script long ago
is hard as you know
so reading it is no mean feat!

Letters were not formed the same way that they are today, the starting position is not in the same place. If you know what the letter looks like & you can take into consideration, where the starting point would be, then when the letters are joined together, they won't look so different to you, as they'll be a swoop up, or down etc., so factor that in.
Words used in old Wills

Tilde ~ (from the Latin word, titulus)
Originally meant "title" or "superscription" (jot & tittle). Tildes were used in Old Handwriting, generally implying omitted letters- occasiõ for 'occasion'. A tilde can also indicate the need to supply a vowel-t-vowel combination in words with Latin roots, a common derivative of which, in Elizabethan secretary hands, is lrê for 'letter'. An important offshoot of this very formal type of tilde usage, more common in Elizabethan & Jacobean secretary mixed hands, is using a tilde to replace the i after t or c in -tion or -cion endings; for example, reuocacõn or instruccõn, should transcribe as 'reuocacion' and 'instruccion'.
