Some people are long dead and gone
They go really young, or drag on;
They're buried somewhere?
Some graves, they do share
But which is 'my' Mary or John?

HEADSTONE CLEARING
For almost 30 years the Metropolitan Cemeteries Board has been clearing headstones from Karrakatta Cemetery & will commence this practice in the Fremantle Cemetery this year. Headstones from founding pioneers, soldiers & other people who have contributed historically to the state have been removed. Valuable historic information & artifacts have been sent off & crushed for road base. http://www.perthnow.com.au/news/western-australia/families-lose-the-plot/story PICS http://caiteile.com/2013/03/03/leave-our-ancestors-alone/ Not Just W.A. destroying Tombstones http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/06/22/AR2010062205395.html Grave New Revelations at Arlington http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/Grave-New-Revelations-97035624.html |

http://www.australiancemeteries.com/vic/mt_alexander/castlemaine.htm Castlemaine Cemetery http://www.fomad.org.au/castlemaine-cemetery.html Castlemaine Cemetery sometimes known as Campbell's Creek or Campbell's Flat. The first cemetery in Castlemaine was in Templeton Street, but was later moved to Campbells Creek in 1853. Most of the burials in this first cemetery were re-interred into the new cemetery, but the owners of the graves were given the option as to where to have the re-burials. It is believed that some did use other cemeteries. It is thought that there were earlier burials, but no full information is known of them as they were said to be in a couple of exercise books (not located to date) or just not listed in the registers. The actual number of burials is not fully known as some of the earlier burials were not recorded as per the information on a number of the earlier death certs in Victoria (1853 - late 1860s) where the Deputy Registers of the areas did not list the cemeteries on the death certificates, the column was left blank.
http://www.australiancemeteries.com/vic/mt_alexander/castlemaine.htm Catholic Diocese of Sandhurst- Historic graves in Bendigo
Considerable information about the lives of priests buried here is available, but such is not the case for most of the deceased members of religious orders of nuns and brothers who often spent their lives in obscurity. This article provides some general information on graves of these religious. Next to the former grave of the bishops, there are 3 graves, 2 of the Sisters of Mercy & the other of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd.........While there are many nuns buried in the Bendigo cemetery, there are only three brothers. These were all very young Marist brothers, and some brief details of them are available. http://www.sandhurst.catholic.org.au/index.php/a-short-history12/from-the Crewick Cemetery Listing

Newhaven Cemetery, East Sussex
Last of the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century, there was a French convent in Newhaven at Church Hill, known as the Convent of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The convent purchased a section of graves in the south western corner of the old part of the cemetery and a flat stone commemorating many of the sisters, together with two unusual metal crosses can be found in this area. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid Nunhead
It is perhaps the least famous and celebrated of the Seven. In the cemetery were reinterred remains removed, in 1867 and 1933, from the site of the demolished St Christopher le Stocks church in the City of London. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page |

Unconsecrated Ground- Who is Buried there?
Those who have committed a serious crime, those who committed suicide, those who are Nonconformists & those who rebel against the laws of the land, or the laws of the Church. Also, the unbaptized, especially babies. If a mother gave birth to a child who died shortly after it was born, being unbaptized, it would have to be buried in unconsecrated ground. If the mother died as well as the baby, the mother would be buried in consecrated ground & the baby separately, in unconsecrated ground. The midwives often felt for the mothers of these babies, so if the midwife thought that the baby was not going to make it, she would baptize the baby (having previous authority from the church) with a wet sponge, while it was still in the birth canal. If the child survived, the Priest would often perform the baptism again properly & this is why you may see two baptism for the same child. If the midwife was unable to baptize the child & both the mother and the baby died during child birth, the midwife would often leave the umbilical cord attached, so that both mother & baby could be buried together in consecrated ground. 1. Mrs. Ivy Burrows, who, after poisoning herself on Christmas Day, shot her stepdaughter, was buried in unconsecrated plot without religious ceremony.
