Saving As..(invalid file name)
7. Click & drag Mouse across Newspaper title & date to Highlight,
then right click on it & copy
then right click on it & copy
8. Next, right click on save image as...
9. The nla file name will look something like this-
10. You can save it as this long file name if you want? but then later, you'll wonder what the article is? then have to rename it.
So, while they're still blue, right click anywhere on the numbers and paste the newspaper title & date (that you copied before), in over the numbers. Your file name will replace the blue file name.

BUT!

The Trouble maker, is the Colon :
12. Just remove it (usually somewhere in the middle, where you can see the cursor below) Then hit save. I get rid of the years in the brackets as well

13. Make sure you know the folder, that you're saving the file to? if you didn't take notice?, just do a windows search for any part of the file.
Trick No.2
Searching in 'Lists' & 'Error' picture not found.
Searching in 'Lists' & 'Error' picture not found.
1. Try Searching the last category on the right hand side at the very end 'LISTS'
2. Scroll down & click on anything that may interest you, you never know?
3. Each one of these headings, when you click on them, will give you a list of similar photos, books, etc., as you can see on this example, the 'stories of Qld Gold mines' was created by 'birdwing', so, many thanks to these creators.
4. Scroll down on your new page & see what you're able to view online.
5. This list, had many photos that could be viewed online, if you click on the
green button
green button
6. What happens if you get this error message, like I did with 'Sluicing for Gold on Mulgrave River'? Even the 'contact us' link was dead.
7. Go back to the previous page & click on the 'thumbnail' (tiny) picture
8. Now that you're back to where you were, scroll down to the bottom, where it says
'View online' in the big green heading, under that heading, it will have a link
which says, 'View at where-ever', so click on that, you might get lucky?

9. Scroll down again, to where it says 'image number', or 'Identifier number' then drag across it to highlight the number, right click & 'copy'
10. Paste the number into your 'Google' search box & 'Digitool' should be the first hit that comes up? Don't click on the result that says the same as your photo, (like the fifth result below) because you'll just be back where you started from.
11. The 'Digitool' link should come up with a page like this?
|
Type in the name of the photo & click 'exact' |
12. It should come up with jpeg results?
13. Click on one of the little blue 'jpeg' boxes
14. Magically, the photo appears! It was there all along, just floating around in
Cyber Space, not knowing it's link, but it knew it's number!

Trick No.3
Image Size
Image Size
1. This is what your picture looks like on the page-
2. But when you go to save it, it comes up like this-
3. You’d really like to have the picture in one piece, so chose a different image size?
|
Try a little smaller?
|
It will ask you to create a small image, before you can view it
4. The small size is not in one piece either?
|
Keep trying each different size, until you get the best one
|
5. But even the very smallest image has broken up your picture, so what if none of them are any good?
|
Just take a screen shot |
6. Open a brand new 'Word' document, right click on the page, then paste
7. Click on the the picture in the document
8. Once you’re happy with your picture, click on it & enlarge by dragging the edges
9. Right click on it, then save picture as a png or jpg or bmp
10. If you don’t enlarge your picture a little inside the Word doc., then it won’t be very good quality. The larger the picture, the better the quality.
Trick No.4
Saving all Sections
Saving all Sections
1. When you go to save your article, sometimes it’s broken up into
multiple sections on the save page, like this one-

Trick No.5
Multiple pages
Multiple pages
1. Sometimes an article runs over into the next page.
2. Because of this, whatever you were searching for, may not come up as the page first to be read when you open the link.
|
In this case, the link has opened up on page 4, but what you would like to look at, is on page 5
|
3. Scroll down the text on the left side, to find the highlighted words that you were searching for. You may have to scroll past the page marker?
|
If you did? you'll find that if you click on the text, it will not take you to where those words are on the page, like it should do. |
4. Click on any part of the text above the ‘continued on page 5’, it will take you to that spot on the page, but as soon as you click below that ‘continued on page 5’, nothing happens, the page just stays where it was.
5. The overview, says that it’s on page 4, but that’s where the article starts. Because there is not another heading until well into page 5, the search engine doesn’t pick it up as being on page 5, only as part of the page 4 article.
6. If you click on the other page (page 5), all of the yellow highlighted words are now gone, so you have to read through the whole page to find the section that interests you, which is very time consuming
7. Go back to page 4 & find where your highlighted words are in the text, but don’t click on the page 4, otherwise, your highlighted words on page 4 will disappear as well.
8. Back on page 4,
|
Scroll down and find your highlighted words again.
|
9. Drag your mouse over the words, then right click to copy them (or you can remember what they were & miss this step, plus step 7 & 8)
|
Now click on page 5, then paste (or type) the words you’ve just copied, into the windows search box, top right of page. |
11. Click on the new highlighted text and it should take you to where those words are on the page?
12. After you choose the download arrow on the left side to save this section, it will come up with only page 4, but it has included page 5 as well, just scroll down.
13. Unfortunately, windows search won’t work on a picture file (jpg) So before you go to save, take a little notice of words or sentences that are above or around your section, so that you can find it a little easier.
14. Make sure you click save on the same spot as where your section is, otherwise, it might save the wrong part of the page?
All that fuss & bother, just because the 'Trove' search engine won't recognise
